Well, first off, celebrate! Congratulations to you! You have just completed something that most people will never do. You published a book! What an accomplishment!
So, now you have the books in your hand. I am hoping that you were letting people know via social media etc. that your book is about to come out. If you haven’t, no worries, the world isn’t over; it’s just always nice to have a head start.
Ok. Now let’s get started. You’re going to want to throw yourself a launch party. You can make it big or small, but remember, the point is that you get your friends and family together in one place and everyone celebrates you, the fact that you wrote a book, and most importantly, BUYS your book. Try to have your launch party in a place that is free so that you don’t have to spend too much on anything; after all, you did just buy your books. If your home is big enough, have it there. Or, in a café (speak with the owners first) or even a bar, depending on the genre of your book.
Remember to get some little treats or finger foods and drinks for your guests. You want them to buy your book, but you also want them to enjoy themselves. $30.00 can go a long way with veggies and dip, some punch and some cake and crackers.
Also, try to decorate a little. Make it festive and accessible for your guests so that they are as excited as you are!
Here’s the other thing. You are going to want to share your excitement on social media, now…even if you did or didn't before. BUT…and notice it is a big BUT…don't flood people's feeds with an overwhelming amount of posts and pictures just about your book. It really is just annoying. If you have done it before, don't worry, just don't do it anymore.
People like to hear about your process. They like to hear about the ways that you struggled and succeeded. They like to hear and know that you are trying and striving and moving along. Create easy, personal posts about life. Use quotes or tell short stories. Read your audience. They will tell you if they are excited by your stuff.
Use all of your social media outlets. If you don’t typically use one, but you have an account that you don’t use, leave it alone. Go where you have been and let your followers know what you have going on.
Please remember, if no one notices you right away, don’t quit. They will see you eventually. Consistency is the key. Just keep on going.
(Here is my last secret, and this one is super important. Have your own personal celebration. It doesn’t matter what that looks like; if you take yourself out for dinner, give yourself a hug or by a new outfit. Make sure that you honour all of the work, time, effort and money that you put into this new piece of your legacy!)
Peace and blessings, everyone!
